Please join us on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 6:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m. for Lakes’ annual Family Fun Fest!

This year’s theme is the Olympics, and as we have in the past, we are planning on having a great time. Family Fun Fest is an evening at school with tons of games and prizes, entertainment for the kids, food, a raffle, and much more!

Of course, we would not be able to put on this fun-filled evening without some additional help from volunteers like you! We are in need of volunteers for the following: after school ticket sales the week of the event; donations for our raffle; game sponsors; concession sales; donations for our two cake walks; and set-up and clean-up volunteers.

Dear Lakes parents and students:

Your child is invited to attend our annual Holiday Shop!

It will be held from Monday, December 5 through Wednesday, December 7 and will take place in the gym. Once again, we are using Fun Services for our products. There will be over 80 items, priced at either $2 or $5. They include jewelry, sports items, toys, personalized mugs and items just for dads, moms, grandparents and siblings.

Here are a few details:

• Your child’s teacher has signed up for a time slot to shop. Each class will have 30 minutes to shop. Your child’s teacher may let you know what day and time they have chosen, however a schedule will be provided with the gift planning envelope.
• A gift planning envelope will be sent home with your child next week. This will allow for you and your child to plan their shopping trip and determine who they are shopping for and how much they will spend. This will also be the way they will transport the money to school. Cash or checks payable to LAKES ELEMENTARY PTO are acceptable.
• If your child missed their classrooms scheduled time to shop, there will be a make-up time on Wednesday. Or, with their teachers’ permission, they can come anytime the shop is open. This will allow anyone who is absent to still get gifts for their family.
• Please keep in mind that we will have volunteers on hand to help with shopping.

Lakes Movie Night Featuring "Cars 2"!

Friday, November 18, 2011 in the Lakes Elementary Gymnasium

Doors will open at 6:30pm and the movie will begin at 7:00 pm.

Admittance is $1.00 per family.

Please feel free to wear your favorite pajamas, bring your favorite pillow and blanket or sleeping bag (chairs will be provided for adults).

There will be refreshments for sale as well.

We will once again be doing a fall run as a Fundraiser this year. For those of you who are new to Lakes Elementary, or do not remember what our Fall Fundraiser is all about, here is a quick explanation.

In the past, for many years, our school did a “catalog” sales in the fall, as a way to raise money for the PTO for all of the programs and events they sponsor. The Fall Fundraiser is our BIGGEST effort to raise money for each year’s PTO budget. We still do miscellaneous fundraisers throughout the year, but none of these smaller programs raises anywhere near the amount of money our Fall Fundraiser does. So, when it came time to change how we raise money for our BIG fundraiser, we really needed to think of what we could do.

A few years ago we used a company that ran the Fall Run event for us. Not only were we able to raise the amount of money we would have with a catalog company, but we were able to do it without selling something that mom or dad or grandma would never use! The students loved it, the staff thought it was great and parents who came to cheer their kids on thought it was wonderful. It was a “no brainer” that we would do a “fun run” again. Since then, the PTO has coordinated and ran the event with much success.

So, like it says above, we will be doing another “fall run”, and once again, the parents of Lakes Elementary will be organizing, coordinating and running the day’s event.

So save the date of Thursday, October 6, 2011. The event will take place during the school day, and a schedule will be available soon. You are welcome to come and watch and cheer our students and staff on!

Call for Help!

Lakes Elementary “Sports Zone” Fun Fest is Friday, March 11th 6:30PM to 8:30PM

We are still in NEED of a few more GAME SPONSORS AND DONATIONS FOR THE CAKE WALK AND BAKE SALE.

As a game sponsor you would have to supply a simple game, inexpensive prizes (candy, trinkets, etc.), setup and cleanup, and a few volunteers to run the game. Family, friends and relatives can help with your game. The PTO would be happy to assist you with prizes or volunteers if you are unable to come up with them on your own.

We are in need of GAME SPONSORS & VOLUNTEERS TO WORK THE FUN FEST and DONATIONS FOR THE CAKE WALK AND BAKE SALE. As a game sponsor, you would have to supply a simple game, inexpensive prizes (candy, trinkets, etc.), set-up and clean up, and provide a few volunteers to run the game. Family friends and relatives can help with your game. The PTO would be happy to assist you in prizes or volunteers if you are unable to come up with them on your own. We need a few volunteers to help with the “Art Tiles” project, too. You can volunteer for one or two hours during the event, or to help set-up and tear down.

The classroom with the highest level of participation will win a pizza party. This is measured by a point system: 10 points for sponsoring a game, 5 points for volunteers, and 1 point for attendance.

Cakes and Baked goods should be dropped off at the school on the day of the event before 6:00pm.
